National Chung Cheng University’s Department of Adult and Continuing Education Conducts Academic Exchange Visit to the University of Tokyo

The Department of Adult and Continuing Education at National Chung Cheng University (CCU) is organizing an academic exchange trip to Tokyo, Japan, from November 24 to 29, 2024. The six-day visit will be led by the department chair, Professor Lin Li-Hui, and include Professors Hu Meng-Jing, Wei Hui-Juan, Chen Yu-Jing, and Chen Yu-Shu, along with six doctoral students, forming a delegation of 11 participants.

The primary goal of this academic exchange is to deepen collaboration between CCU and Japanese institutions in the field of adult education and explore the latest trends in lifelong learning and senior education. During the visit, the delegation will tour several institutions, including WASEDA NEO at Waseda University Nihonbashi Campus, Okamama’s House, Direct Force, the Makino Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, the Kashiwa Multigenerational Exchange Community Base “Tea Wheel,” the Centenarian Social Design Foundation/Helte, a cultural experience at a Japanese izakaya, and the Second Stage College at Rikkyo University.

A highlight of the exchange will take place on the afternoon of November 25, when Professor Lin Li-Hui is invited to deliver a keynote speech at Waseda University. Her presentation, titled “The Development and Prospects of Senior Universities in Taiwan,” will share Taiwan's experiences in promoting lifelong education for seniors and outline future directions. The event will also include bilateral discussions with Japanese scholars to exchange insights and expertise.

Since its inception, the Department of Adult and Continuing Education at CCU has been committed to advancing the principles of lifelong learning and cultivating professionals in adult education. This exchange not only strengthens collaborative ties with leading Japanese universities but also lays the groundwork for future international research and teaching partnerships. Additionally, the delegation plans to compile and publish the outcomes of this visit, providing valuable insights to scholars and practitioners focused on adult education and senior learning.

Through this academic exchange, the department anticipates leveraging Japan’s successful practices in senior education and community development to enhance the quality and diversity of adult education in Taiwan. This initiative aligns with CCU’s vision of fostering a society where lifelong learning is accessible to all.
