Chiang Hsiu Chen (江秀真), PhD Student of the National Chung Cheng University Adult and Continuing Education, became the first female Taiwanese mountaineer who reached peaks of the seven tallest mountains in the world.
At the age of 24, she already successfully summited Mount Everest in 1995. Earned a reputation as a legendary woman of mountaineering in Taiwan, she published her new book “Seminars for Ten Years, for My Dreams” in 2020 and then gave talks in the ceremonies in our university and department. Chiang has special views on mountaineering education. She thinks that Taiwan is already an aging society, and therefore middle-aged and senior climbers might have higher needs of climbing education, compared to young people and school children. According to her experiences of leading middle-aged and senior climbers and hikers, she learnt that climbing plans are actually the management of objective and they are helpful for improving their health and physical conditions and increasing their life quality after retirement.
